The book instantly appealed to me based on the blurb and the cover, which promised an engaging and witty narrative that drew me in from the very start. The sample had also hinted at an intriguing storyline, filled with quirky characters and clever situations that seemed ripe for exploration. Unfortunately, as I delved deeper into the pages, I was somewhat disappointed. Somehow, the humor didn’t really impress me as I had hoped it would, instead, it often felt forced and less sophisticated than I anticipated. At some point, I found it simply too vulgar for my taste, which overshadowed the lighter comedic moments that were enjoyable. It just became too much all at once, hitting me with an overwhelming barrage of jokes that ultimately detracted from my reading experience. I also felt that the plot was pushed to the back due to the emphasis on the “humor,” making it hard for me to engage with the story. At some point, I began to focus solely on the humor, which turned into a distraction, causing me to barely notice the actual storyline anymore. The vibrant world and characters I was eager to explore faded into the background, and eventually, I lost all desire to continue reading on, feeling as though I was missing out on what could have been a delightful adventure.

I just didn’t warm up to the story, but that doesn’t mean the book was bad. It simply wasn’t my style in the end, as I tend to gravitate toward narratives that offer a different pace or depth. Still, it’s clear that this book has resonated with many readers, and seeing all the great reviews genuinely makes me glad to see that this book is loved by other people. While I may not have connected with it personally, I appreciate that it has found its audience and sparked conversations among those who loved it. I won’t be reading the second book unfortunately.

P.S. This book is the definition of slowburn romance!

Das Buch hat mich vom Klappentext und vom Cover her sofort angesprochen, da ich eine Vorliebe für Geschichten habe, die Kreativität und Witz miteinander verbinden. Die Leseprobe hatte auch viel versprochen, da sie interessant und vielversprechend wirkte. Leider bin ich dann doch etwas enttäuscht worden, als ich feststellte, dass die versprochenen Elemente nicht das waren, was ich erhofft hatte. Irgendwie hat mich der Humor nicht so wirklich beeindrucken können und irgendwann fand ich es einfach zu vulgär bzw. ist es einfach auf einmal “too much” geworden, was mein Lesevergnügen erheblich beeinträchtigt hat. Ich hatte auch das Gefühl, dass die Handlung durch den “Humor” in den Hintergrund gedrängt wurde und weniger Substanz erhielt. Anstatt die Charaktere wirklich kennenzulernen oder eine tiefere Verbindung zur Geschichte aufzubauen, hab ich nur noch den Humor herausgelesen und die eigentliche Handlung hab ich quasi gar nicht mehr mitbekommen. Dies führte dazu, dass ich irgendwann auch gar keine Lust mehr hatte, weiterzulesen.

Ich bin halt leider nicht mit der Geschichte warm geworden, was aber nicht heißen soll, dass das Buch schlecht war. Es gab viele interessante Aspekte, die darin vorkamen. Trotzdem war es leider nicht das, was ich mir gewünscht hätte. Mein Stil war es eben schlussendlich nicht, und das ist vollkommen in Ordnung, denn nicht jedes Buch spricht jeden Leser an. Vielleicht hätte ich zu einem anderen Zeitpunkt oder in einer anderen Stimmung anders darauf reagieren können. Das zweite Buch werde ich also leider nicht lesen.

P.S.: Dieses Buch ist die pure Definition eines guten Slowburn.
