Here are all the books I’ve read this month. I can’t even believe that tomorrow is the 1st September and even though I’m too old for Hogwarts I’m going back! Who’s with me? ^^
I’m only going to include the books I’ve actually finished reading this month. There were a few I dnf’ed but I’m not going to include them in my Wrap-up!
#1 – Fantastic Beasts and where to find them by Newt Scamander (J.K. Rowling)
A brand new edition of this essential companion to the Harry Potter stories, with a new foreword from J.K. Rowling and an irresistible new jacket by Jonny Duddle.
An approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since publication, Newt Scamander’s masterpiece has entertained wizarding families through the generations. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable introduction to the magical beasts of the wizarding world. Scamander’s years of travel and research have created a tome of unparalleled importance. Some of the beasts will be familiar to readers of the Harry Potter books – the Hippogriff, the Basilisk, the Hungarian Horntail … Others will surprise even the most ardent amateur magizoologist. Dip in to discover the curious habits of magical beasts across five continents …
‘No wizarding household is complete without a copy’ Albus Dumbledore
.
I adored this book. The only negative thing I have to say about this is that there were no illustrations for every magical beast.

#2 – Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
On the morning of their fifth wedding anniversary, Nick’s wife, Amy, has disappeared. Nick is weak, Nick is a liar, and maybe he’s not the very best of husbands — but is he a killer? Amy’s diary reveals turmoil over their marriage, strange sicknesses, and her deep wish to be a mother — but is she telling the whole story? As the evidence slowly mounts, and the police investigation deepens, Nick is incriminated in horrible ways. He swears he didn’t murder his beautiful wife and goes on the offensive to clear his name. The mystery of Amy’s disappearance only gets more tangled as secrets unfurl from the web of their knotty marriage, and it becomes clear that something may have happened more disturbing than death.
I honestly had my problems with this book. I wanted to like it so much but in the end, I didn’t really like it. I’ll give this book a second try when I have the time.

#3 – Illumine by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.
This was such a great reading experience. And if you want to read something that gets you out of a reading slump, I definitely recommend reading a book like Illuminae which is told through files, interviews, e-mails and many more interesting documents.

#4 – Wives of War by Soraya M. Lane
London, 1944. Two young nurses meet at a train station with a common purpose: to join the war effort. Scarlet longs for the chance to find her missing fiancé, Thomas, and to prove to her family—and to herself—that she’s stronger than everybody thinks. Nursing is in Ellie’s blood, but her humble background is vastly different from Scarlet’s privileged upbringing. Though Ellie puts on a brave face, she’s just as nervous as Scarlet about what awaits them in France.
In Normandy, the two friends soon encounter the seemingly unflappable Lucy. Scarlet and Ellie are in awe of her courage and competence, but the experienced nurse is well aware of the dangers of the job they’ve chosen—and even she is terrified they won’t make it home alive.
Pushed to their limits by the brutality of a world at war, Scarlet, Ellie and Lucy will need to rely on each other—and the power of their friendship—to survive.
I got this book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. And I really liked it. The Romance was a bit too much for me but nevertheless, I enjoyed reading it.

#5 – The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee
Henry “Monty” Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. The finest boarding schools in England and the constant disapproval of his father haven’t been able to curb any of his roguish passions—not for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men.
But as Monty embarks on his Grand Tour of Europe, his quest for a life filled with pleasure and vice is in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.
Still it isn’t in Monty’s nature to give up. Even with his younger sister, Felicity, in tow, he vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.
Just one word: Abso-bloody-lutely fantastic (Sorry I love that quote so much!) I’m so excited for the other book to come out even though we have to wait some time!

#6 – Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi
Colour and magic combine in this enchanting new middle grade fantasy from the bestselling author of the Shatter Me series.
Born as blank as canvas in a world brimming with colour and magic, Alice’s pale skin and milk-white hair mark her as an outcast. Because, for the people of Ferenwood, colour and magic are one and the same. And since the disappearance of her beloved father, Alice is more determined than ever to prove herself and her own magical abilities.
To do so she’ll have to travel into the mythical, dangerous land of Furthermore, with the help of a fiercely annoying boy named Oliver. But nothing in Furthermore is as it seems, and it will take all of Alice’s wits to find her father and return him safely home.
It’s not really my genre but I found the cover pretty so I wanted to have it on my shelf. The reading experience was kind of cute but like I mentioned above it’s not really my genre. And am I the only one that thought of it as an Alice in Wonderland retelling? (vague retelling) I won’t review this book!

#7 – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
“You are sharing the Dark Lord’s thoughts and emotions. The Headmaster thinks it inadvisable for this to continue. He wishes me to teach you how to close your mind to the Dark Lord.”
Dark times have come to Hogwarts. After the Dementors’ attack on his cousin Dudley, Harry Potter knows that Voldemort will stop at nothing to find him. There are many who deny the Dark Lord’s return, but Harry is not alone: a secret order gathers at Grimmauld Place to fight against the Dark forces. Harry must allow Professor Snape to teach him how to protect himself from Voldemort’s savage assaults on his mind. But they are growing stronger by the day and Harry is running out of time…
This was a re-read and I don’t think that I have to say much about this book.

#8 – Extropia: Mind Game by Robin Bootle
An act of sabotage leaves Edward’s father trapped inside a virtual reality game, Extropia. In a bid to save him, Edward follows, entering a world he knows he might never leave. A world of artificially intelligent beings, subjected to a life of misery and fear in the name of entertainment.
Now one of them has learned of the real world, and is determined to have his revenge…
I got this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review! I kind of liked it but it didn’t really WOW me. The beginning was great but in the middle of this book until the end I have the feeling that it’s always the same thing happening. My review of this book is going up in September as well!

Review to come
#9 – A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Feyre is a huntress.
She thinks nothing of slaughtering a wolf to capture its prey. But, like all mortals, she fears what lingers mercilessly beyond the forest. And she will learn that taking the life of a magical creature comes at a high price…
Imprisoned in an enchanted court in her enemy’s kingdom, Feyre is free to roam but forbidden to escape. Her captor’s body bears the scars of fighting, and his face is always masked – but his piercing stare draws her ever closer. As Feyre’s feeling for Tamlin begin to burn through every warning she’s been told about his kind, an ancient, wicked shadow grows.
Feyre must find a way to break a spell, or lose her heart forever.
Who would have thought that I was going to like this book so much? Not me! After reading mixed reviews about ACOTAR I had a feeling that I wouldn’t like it alas I gave it a bloody 4.5 star rating on Goodreads. My Review is also going to be up in September!
My Rating: 📖📖📖📖 1/2

Same amount of books as me! HIGH FIVE ✋. You can see what I read on my wrap up post. I decided not to read gone girl because I already saw the fabulous movie and I heard the book wasn’t all that great but her other books were amazing so I added those to my tbr
YAY! virtual high-five I’ve actually read none of the books in your Wrap-up and apart from This Savage Song I’ve heard nothing about these books before but I will definitely check them out! 🙂 This savage song is on my physical TBR so I’ll probably read it soon as well. I’m still debating with myself whether I should read Flynn’s other books or not.
Yeah I was debating also but I saw they had much better reviews. They’re all really amazing books.

I feel the same way about ACOTAR. I was hellbent on staying away from this book because I didnt like TOG. Imagine my surprise when I actually ended up really enjoying this. ❤
I still have to read TOG but for now, I’m really enjoying the authors writing style in the ACOTAR series so I hope that I will enjoy TOG as much as ACOTAR 🙂

9 book is a great number. I have hardly finished 4 books 😦 Good luck for next month too.
4 books is a great number as well. Personally, for me, it doesn’t matter how many books you’ve actually read in a month. Even if it’s only one book that’s already a great achievement! 🙂 Thank you! However, Uni starts for me in the middle of September and I’ll be gone for a mini vacation from Monday to Thursday so I don’t know if I’ll have much time to read besides finishing ACOMAF 🙂
Yeah same. I have a 9 hours full-time job so I can hardly manage more time for reading. But I am happy with it 😊 And yes right, it matters that you read rather than how many! I hope you can manage some reading on your vacation 😊 Happy journey though!
Thanks! 🙂

Great books this month. I read Gone Girl in July and I really liked it
Thank you! 🙂 I’m kinda disappointed that I did not like Gone Girl but I guess that the book was just not for me.

9 is a really good number! Also I really want to read Illuminae now (I’ve never heard of it actually) and I’m definitely adding ACOTAR to my TBR!
Thanks! <3 I was surprised when I saw how many books I actually read in August. I thought that I read less than that but apparently not xD. I really recommend Illuminae & ACOTAR 🙂
I don’t even know how many I read in August, I’m thinking 6-7, but I honestly can’t remember. I’ll put those two on my TBR, maybe I’ll get to them sometime in the next 10 years
Take your time 😉

I just love your post! I love the use of the books for your star rating. I also really like how at the end of your post you wrap up how many pages and what formats you read everything in.
Thank you! <3 Well I tried to be somewhat creative in this big world of the bookworm community. And I got inspired by some of my favourite bloggers too! So yesterday was my first try of putting the number of pages in my Wrap-Up and I think that I'm going to keep it that way for the future! 🙂
