Hello, everyone!
This weeks topic is to discuss the Top 5 Books to read without the Synopsis. I always did this as a teenager. I never actually took the time to read what the book is about. I only judged it by the cover. So if the cover was pretty, I bought the book. And I have to say that I got rarely disappointed. Some of these books were pretty good!
Let’s get started with the list!
#1 – Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Let’s be honest! The synopsis never actually made me want to read this book. It kind of spoiled you. You’re really better off getting into this one blindly and I’m sure that you’re going to like it a lot more!
#2 – State of Emergency by Andy McNab
This book synopsis really disappointed me. It got me so excited and then, in the end, I kind of got disappointed because I thought that something else was going to happen. I probably expected too much after reading the synopsis. The book was still good but it didn’t leave me speechless.
#3 – The Shining by Stephen King
Well the synopsis of this one did definitely not made me want to read the book. I only read it because I love Stephen King’s books. I have more of a love-hate relationship with his book but never mind that was the only reason why I read it and I ended up liking The Shining a lot. But not thanks to the synopsis.
#4 – 11/22/63 by Stephen King
Again, the synopsis told too much. You already know what’s going to happen and for this book, I’m glad that I haven’t read the synopsis before. And as I own this one in German (a complete other title) I didn’t even know that this one was talking about the assassination of Kennedy.
#5 – Netwars – The Code by M.Sean Coleman
Another book where the synopsis isn’t interesting enough! This novel is honestly so good! I read it in German and it got translated in English. This thriller I’d definitely recommend it to everyone.
That was everything for today and I guess that I learned my lesson. You should sometimes trust your heart and not only the synopsis! If you want to buy a book because the title intrigues you or you like the cover, do it!

I couldn’t think of five so I didn’t do T5W this week. I think that when you know a book is a mystery or thriller you should never read the synopsis. But that’s just what I like to do๐

That was an interesting list. I know that some books are better to read “blind”. There are some however it is good to know something about them especially when there are triggers involved. You don’t want to end up starting something that would in the end bring up something of discomfort for yourself. Another source is when people talk about a book versus the synopsis because people could tell you information and know what would spoil it and what won’t. I’m sorry for rambling just being some points of when and when not to go in without the synopsis.

I have a love-hate relationship with synopses, because sometimes they are really good and intriguing, but then there are times when it doesn’t even relate back to the story! Also some of my favorite books I didn’t even read the synopses, so I don’t depend on them too much.

I rarely read synopses anyway – I can’t stand that so many of them seem overly detailed! I’m so excited for Red Rising, even though I have no clue what it’s about! ๐

Why do I feel like Stephen Kings books are hunting me this week. Every blog I visit a Stephen Kings novel is the topic of the day. Gosh I should really get one of those for myself. Nice list I’ll try to get some of then

I don’t know, lately I’ve realized how spoilery some blurbs are and how they’ll ultimately ruin the story for me. So recently I’ve decided to read as little of those as possible and just try and be surprised by the book. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t … Plus, like to you mentioned, they can ruin our expectations too!
