About the book

Synopsis:

For fans of Kara Thomas and Courtney Summers comes a supernatural horror that reminds us family can be our saving grace–or our biggest curse. Set one-hundred years after the Borden murders, this propulsive thriller imagines what a similar trial might look like today.

When the parents of the richest family in Fall River are found murdered by axe, the town is quick to blame newcomer Vik. It doesn’t help that he was caught standing over the bodies with blood on his hands and can’t remember anything about the night in question.

But Vik’s sister, Tessa, knows that Vik would never be capable of such a gruesome crime. Haunted by the mistakes she made that led her family to Fall River in the first place, she sets out to prove her brother’s innocence.

Her search for answers will lead her into a sprawling, supposedly cursed forest, as well as the childhood home of Lizzie Borden—the original axe murderess of Fall River.

RevieW

I have developed a keen interest in the Lizzie Borden case ever since I first encountered it through a true-crime podcast. Therefore, it was with great enthusiasm that I seized the opportunity to participate in this exclusive blog tour.

In the novel “Hatchet Girls,” readers are introduced to Tessa, a young woman grappling with the loss of her father and adjusting to her new life in Fall River. Her journey takes an even more tumultuous turn following a series of unsettling events involving Fall River’s prominent figures, the Morses. Complicating matters further, Tessa’s brother Vik finds himself entangled in a situation where he is accused of murdering Mariella’s parents, his girlfriend. However, Tessa and her family staunchly believe in Vik’s innocence, and the eerie parallel between these recent killings and the infamous case of Lizzie Borden’s brutal murder of her own family adds another layer of intrigue to the story.

I absolutely loved the setting of this book and really enjoyed this Lizzie Borden Retelling story. It just felt like the perfect fall reading. There was everything inside this book. Everything that you’re expecting about a book coming out in October and that claims to be a horror book can be found in this story.

“Hatchet Girls” was a creepy read and definitely kept me fascinated and in its hooks. I just couldn’t stop reading this book and was shocked by the ending. And not only shocked because I’d finished it so fast.

If you’re a fan of spooky stuff and love reading about real-life horror stories, then this book is a must-read for you. Seriously, it’s packed with all the creepy details a horror fan craves!
