Macon and Delilah are no friends and especially no besties, that’s for sure! Delilah was so relieved when Macon and her sister Samantha weren’t a couple anymore. Nonetheless, there was some trouble in paradise. Sam stole something that meant a lot to Macon. Now, Delilah has to step in and pay off her sister’s debt. She also soon discovers that her animosity towards Macon leans dangerously towards attraction. Maybe even a mutual one.

This was my first book by Callihan and I quite liked it. At the beginning, I had some troubles getting into the story. Still, after a few chapters, I couldn’t get enough of “Dear Enemy.” The trope “enemies to lovers” is one of my favorite tropes on earth. It fits the setting and the backstory perfectly. I loved the banter between our protagonists and I have to say that I loved Delilah especially. Let’s not start the discussion about her sister because I’m still angry over Sam. How dare she?!

This might be a spoiler, so skip to Spoiler End if you haven’t read the book yet.

In this book you’ll encounter some character growth. Macon and Delilah must live together for a while. She needs to make amends for her sister’s mistakes. This situation forces both parties to talk. The flashbacks reveal where everything went wrong. Delilah learns a lot about who her sister really is. She realizes that in the end Macon probably wasn’t the bad guy out there. And Macon regrets the things he did in the past. It was really important to read about their past and how they changed for the better at the end.

“Dear Enemy” is no fast-paced romance. Even though I prefer a faster pace in general, the slow-burn fit the storyline here. They have been enemies for so many years. It makes sense that they don’t fall in love instantly.

I’m glad that I didn’t DNF this book. I continued reading on because I might have just found a new favorite author. I will definitely continue to read other books by Callihan.
