About the book

Goodreads Synopsis:

Mackenzie hasn’t had a successful date in months. She’s only a year out of residency, and her grandmother’s obsession with finding the perfect mate threatens to drive her barking mad, so it should be a small thing when she lies about meeting someone . . . until she blurts out the name of the last man she would ever date: Noah ‘The Big Bad Wolf of Denver General’ Taylor.

Noah, interventional cardiologist and all-round grump, has spent his entire life hiding what he is – an unmated alpha. But when an anonymous tip brings everything to light, he’s left with two choices: come clean to the board and risk his career or find himself a mate. So, when the chatty, overly friendly ER doctor asks him to be her fake boyfriend the same day he’s called to meet the board, it must be kismet, right?

Mackenzie gets her grandmother off her back, and Noah gets the chance to prove he can continue to work without a real mate – it’s a mutually beneficial business transaction. But when the fake-mate act turns to a very real friends-with-benefits arrangement, lines start to blur, and they quickly realise love is a whole different kind of animal.

Review

Mackenzie’s Grandmother is obsessed with finding the perfect mate for her. Which is probably why she said that she would be dating Noah Taylor, a fellow coworker at the hospital. Noah on the other side is known as being grumpy and definitely not as chatty as Mackenzie. Also no one at work was supposed to know that he was an unmated alpha but for unknown reasons the board got an anonymous tip and now his career is at risk. He has to find someone to be his mate. Soon both doctors are forming a pact but will they stay fake mates or will the lines start to blur after some time spend together?

I LOVED this book. It’s definitely my favorite fiction book of the month and I simply couldn’t get enough of Mackenzie and Noah. Grumpy x Sunshine is next to Enemies to lovers by far one of my favorite romance tropes. When I heard that this was going to be a shifter romance book, I just had to run to the store to get it! There isn’t even any way to describe how fast I went to my local bookstore to grab a copy of it.

The writing style of the author was on point! And I really appreciated the fact that we got a dual POV. I know this is now normal in a lot of romance books but I just appreciate the fact to be able to read both POVs and what one character thinks of the other one. It’s always great being able to see who falls first and who is falling harder.

Despite the book being really smutty, I found it to be cute as hell. The interactions between the characters was really swoon worthy and I was kind of disgusted by the sounds I made when something cute happened. Like what happened to me, lol? I’m usually a hard rock with 0 emotions.

I also loved the plot and the backstories of our two MCs and oh boy don’t get me started on Mackenzie’s grandmother and her friends at work. They were amazing as well and that banter. Please give me more! I want more! I can’t even get that bloody grin out of my face even after having finished this read. I’m not even kidding, I’m still grinning like a mad person.

I can say that this is probably going to be my favorite book of 2024. I don’t even have anything negative to say and it’s been 48 hours already since I’ve finished this masterpiece.

Which also means that all of you steamy shifter romance fans out here need to read “The Fake Mate” by Lana Ferguson ASAP!
